David Wheeler Elected Club President

president installationDavid Wheeler has been elected Ocoee Lions Club President for 2013-14. An installation ceremony was recently held for Wheeler and other incoming Officers of the Lions Club.

Cathy Sills was re-elected to serve as Administrative Secretary. Lions Vice District Governor Al Becker attended the ceremony and performed the Installation of Officers.

David said he counted his election as an honour. He said would work hard in the upcoming year, and challenged all members to contribute in Lions projects serving the community.

Since the Club’s chartering in 1948, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as providing eyeglasses and hearing aids, organizing the Ocoee Christmas Parade and providing food baskets for those in need at Christmas. Proceeds from past fundraising events have gone to the West Orange Girls Club, the Boy Scouts, Lighthouse Central Florida, and Southeastern Guide Dogs, to name a few. The Club is currently preparing for its fall fundraising events.

The Ocoee Lions Club has 34 members and meets on every second Monday at 7 pm at 108 Taylor Street. Lions Clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with more than 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world. Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired and made a strong commitment to community service and serving youth throughout the world.
