Lions Club Supports S.T.A.R.S. of West Orange

Club President Steve Van Varick presents a $300 check to Chesta Hembrooke of Supplies to Assist our Students (S.T.A.R.S.) of West Orange. S.T.A.R.S. provides backpacks and basic school supplies to public elementary, middle and high schools, so students who could not otherwise afford them have the tools they need. Last year S.T.A.R.S. helped 15,000 students in 64 schools in Orange County. Chesta Hembrooke of S.T.A.R.S., after receiving the donation, thanked the Lions Club for supporting them from the beginning.

Donations Presented to Holiday Toys for Kids in Need

The Ocoee Lions Club recently made presentations to the Ocoee Police Department’s Holiday Toys for Kids in Need program. The presentations were a $500 check donation from the Club, and $190 in cash and two full car loads of toys donated by entrants in the Ocoee Christmas Parade. The program was started in 1984 to give toys and holiday treats to underprivileged children, who might not have otherwise received any presents. Pictured during the check presentation, from left to right, are Ocoee Police Lieutenant Steve McCosker, who heads up the Holiday Toys for Kids in Need program, Lions David Wheeler, Tom Hendrix and Steve Van Varick, and Police Chief Charlie Brown.
